About Us

Knickerbocker Circus is an independent publishing company founded by Katelan V. Foisy and Emily Poole Spring of 2009 in a cafe on the Lower East Side. They were joined by editor Drusilla Osborne soon after. It was designed to give artists more creative control over their own works and to embrace those artists overlooked by traditional genres. Additionally Knickerbocker Circus engages in collective projects with various groups such as Swimming Cities and They Be We. It also functions as a guide for those looking to promote themselves, their work, provides innovative literary projects and performances, and will be working with zine trades around the world.

Katelan Foisy

Katelan Foisy is a visual artist who specializes in collage and acrylic mixed media paintings. Katelan studied illustration at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY and started her career in the communication arts shortly after graduating in 2001. Her fine art pieces have been displayed at The Worcester Art Museum, Ohio History Museum, Mae West Fest, MODA, Museum of Contemporary Art DC, as well as the A&D gallery in London. Katelan's ruminative mixed media collages often evoke a gamut of emotion through the rich layers and textural combinations. She is known to use herself as well as her friends in her pieces manipulating faces and bodies to create new characters. This process eventually lead her to create the "They Be We" photography project. Her illustration clients have included, The Grammy Awards, Out magazine, The Progressive and many others. Her collaged portraits and mixed-media paintings have graced the pages of Scholastic Books and the walls of Young & Rubicam. Ensemble Studio Theater even had her work grace their stage. She is the art director and one of the creators of Constellation Magazine. In her spare time she reads tarot, practices reiki and poses for pictures. She currently resides in NYC.

Emily Poole

Emily Poole began photographing at an early age. Often the designated photographer on family trips, she quickly grew fond of the camera. She moved to New York to attend Pratt Institute where she graduated with a BFA in Photography in 2001. Drusilla Osborne

Drusilla Osborne has a PhD in English and currently teaches at a top private high school. In addition to working as a private tutor and writing consultant, she has taught literature and composition classes to students ranging in age from 14 to 64. She has been writing for as long as she can remember and never goes anywhere without a pen and paper. In her approach to editing, she believes that writing is both an art and a science. In working with an author on a project, she has a keen eye not only for technical issues—grammar, syntax, and structure—but also artistic considerations like personal voice, flow, and the overall vision of the piece. When not teaching, Drusilla is deeply involved in spiritual work and her own writing projects.
